Who We Are

We're not your typical law firm

Based in Toronto but working globally, we've built our practice around one simple idea: international business moves fast, and your legal team should keep up without making things harder than they need to be.

Team collaboration

Real solutions for real business challenges

I started Parallax Rift because I was tired of seeing businesses get tangled up in overcomplicated legal processes. After working on hundreds of cross-border deals, I realized there's a massive gap between what lawyers think clients need and what actually helps them succeed.

We've worked with everyone from tech startups expanding into new markets to established corporations navigating multi-million dollar acquisitions. And yeah, every single case taught us something new about making international business law actually work for people.

Our approach? We dig into your specific situation, explain what's actually going on in plain language, and build strategies that make sense for your business goals. No jargon-filled emails, no vague timelines, no surprises on the invoice.

We respond within 24 hours (usually much faster)
Flat fees for most services - you'll know costs upfront
Direct access to senior lawyers, not just junior associates

What We Do

And look, we get that every business is different - your corporate structure should reflect your actual goals, not some cookie-cutter template we found online.

What Clients Say

Real feedback from real clients

We let our work speak for itself, but here's what some of the businesses we've worked with had to say.

Client
Jennifer Lawson

CEO, TechFlow Solutions

"We needed to expand into European markets and honestly had no idea where to start. Sarah and her team walked us through every step - from entity formation to compliance requirements. They made what could've been a nightmare actually manageable."

Client
Ahmed Hassan

Founder, GlobalTrade Inc.

"Marcus helped us navigate a really tricky IP dispute with a competitor. Not only did we win, but he explained everything in plain English throughout the process. Most lawyers just send you bills and legal jargon - these folks actually communicate."

Client
Rachel Park

VP Operations, Meridian Logistics

"When we were looking at acquiring a smaller competitor, David led our due diligence and negotiation. He caught issues our accountants missed and saved us from what would've been a costly mistake. Worth every penny."

Client
Michael O'Brien

Director, Innovations Lab

"Emily's guidance on data privacy compliance was invaluable. She helped us understand GDPR, PIPEDA, and all the other acronyms without making our heads spin. Our company is way more protected now, and I actually understand why."

Client
Lisa Thompson

Co-Founder, NorthStar Ventures

"As a startup founder, legal fees terrified me. But Parallax Rift offered flat-rate pricing for our incorporation and initial contracts, so we actually knew what we'd pay upfront. They also gave us practical advice about which legal protections we actually needed now vs. what could wait. Refreshingly honest approach."

How We Work

Our process is pretty straightforward

No mysterious black boxes here. Here's exactly what happens when you work with us.

1

Initial Consultation

We start with a call or meeting to understand your situation. No charge for the first 30 minutes - we just want to see if we're a good fit and whether we can actually help.

2

Clear Proposal

If we move forward, you'll get a detailed proposal outlining what we'll do, how long it'll take, and what it'll cost. We prefer flat fees when possible, so you know what you're paying.

3

Regular Updates

We'll keep you in the loop throughout the process. You'll always know what's happening, what's next, and if anything unexpected comes up. Communication is key.

4

Results & Follow-Up

Once we've accomplished what we set out to do, we'll debrief and make sure you understand everything. We're also here for questions down the road - clients aren't transactions to us.

Response Time Guarantee

We promise to respond to all client emails and calls within 24 hours during business days. Usually it's way faster - most of our team checks messages in the evenings too. If something's urgent, just say so and we'll prioritize it.

Common Questions

Stuff people usually ask us

We've answered these questions so many times we figured we'd just put them here. If yours isn't listed, just reach out.

Honestly, it depends on what you need. For straightforward stuff like business incorporation or contract reviews, we usually offer flat fees. You'll know the cost upfront. For more complex matters like M&A or litigation, we might work on hourly billing, but we'll give you detailed estimates and keep you updated if things change. We're big on transparency - no surprise invoices at the end of the month.

Absolutely. We've worked with everyone from solo founders to multinational corporations. For startups, we offer scalable solutions that fit your budget. We'll also be straight with you about what legal work you actually need now versus what can wait until you've got more runway. A lot of our startup clients have grown into major clients, and we love being part of that journey.

We've done work involving over 40 countries across North America, Europe, Asia, and beyond. We've got strong networks of local counsel in major jurisdictions, so when your deal touches multiple countries, we can coordinate everything. Our most common international work involves the US, UK, EU countries, China, India, and various Latin American markets. But honestly, if you're looking at a specific country, chances are we've either worked there or know someone who has.

For urgent matters, we can usually start within 24-48 hours. We keep capacity in our schedules specifically for time-sensitive issues because we know business doesn't always give you advance notice. For less urgent work, we'll schedule a kickoff within a week or two. And if you've got a true emergency - like an immediate legal threat - call us directly and we'll make it happen same-day.

Yeah, we take over cases from other firms pretty regularly. Sometimes a client's needs have evolved beyond what their current counsel can handle, or they're just not getting the service they expected. We'll review where things stand, coordinate with your previous lawyer if needed, and get up to speed quickly. No judgment - we just want to help you get the outcome you're after.

Most of our clients prefer virtual meetings, and we're totally set up for that. Video calls, secure document sharing, e-signatures - we've got it all. That said, if you're in Toronto and want to meet face-to-face, we're happy to do that too. Some clients like to come in for the initial consultation and then handle everything else remotely. Whatever works best for you.
